Training

The Entrepreneurial Mindset
Tuesdays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Facilitator: Dr. Fiyah Oates, Transcendent Life Coaching Institute
This course will focus on the mindset that is required to become successful. There is a distinct way of thinking that looks different for entrepreneurs. This course will provide the tools to cultivate and develop yourself into a successful individual and a prosperous business owner. We will also learn the formulas and techniques in how to manifest abundance in your life! New and existing businesses are encouraged to register and establish a firm foundation for entrepreneurial success!

Graphic Design Essentials
Wednesdays 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Facilitator: Rhonda Brown, Rhonda’s Office
This interactive beginner’s course will examine multiple visual communications principles, terminology, and elements of a good design, including color theory, composition, typography and more. Students will review CANVA, as well as, Adobe Illustrator, both are graphic design platforms used to create logos, social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents, and other visual content. A desktop computer or laptop is highly recommended., a long with subscriptions to Canva and Adobe Illustrator. Both platforms offer free trials!

Essential Keys to Effective Communication
Thursdays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Facilitator: Dr. Quanda Stroud, Master Communications and Speech Coach
This course will examine the fundamentals of communications and provide essential keys to effective communication that can be applied personally and professionally. Course topics include active listening, setting healthy boundaries, language/culture, code-switching, and more.

Writing Our Stories Through Verse and Written Word
Tuesdays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Facilitator: Dimitri Reyes, Cavan Kerry Press
In this class Parent Learners will observe and discuss how others choose to write their stories. Through writing exercises and guided conversations Parent Learners will develop skills on how to write their own narratives using poetry. Classes will be led by two published authors from CavanKerry Press, a book publisher in NJ that specializes in poetry and memoirs. Books will be provided free of charge, from CavanKerry Press.
Wellness

Eat Yourself Healthy: Healing with Food
Wednesdays 6:00PM – 8:00PM
Facilitator: Dr. Quanda Stroud, Holistic Healthy Aging 4 Life
This course will explain the concept of the American Food System and the relationship between food and health. Parent Learners will understand the importance of a whole food plant-based diet and be introduced to the concept of growing seasonal organic foods and herbs on a budget.

Anger Management Tools
Wednesdays 10:00AM – 12:00 Noon
Facilitator: Dr. Jerome Maultsby, Ignite the Power Within, LLC
Through this course, Parent Learners will gain a better understanding of anger, the stages of anger, and how anger affects those around you. Strategies to gain control and manage anger better in all situations will also be discussed and practiced through interactive role-playing and scenarios.

Wellness Circle
Tuesdays 10:00AM – 11:00AM or Thursdays 6:00PM – 7:00PM
Facilitator: Tonika Evans, LPC, NCC, CPCS
The Wellness Circle emphasizes the importance of mental wellbeing by providing an opportunity for Parent Learners to speak candidly about challenges, triumphs, and general topics that impact their lives. The ten pillars of A New Way Forward, an evidence-based curriculum will be used as the backdrop to create engaging dialogue and encourage mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness. Parent Learners will also receive practical tools and techniques that support personal growth and development.

Parenting Circle
Tuesdays 6:00PM – 7:00PM or Thursday 6:00PM – 7:00PM
Facilitator: Chris Latson
The Parenting Circle is designed to address the unique challenges of parenting. Parent Learners will develop strategies to improve their communication skills with their child(ren), techniques to encourage positive behavior, and activities to help strengthen their bond. The ten pillars of A New Way Forward, an evidence-based curriculum will be used as the backdrop to facilitate engaging dialogue along with an active parenting curriculum.
